Hi! I'm Monica.
I have been passionate about the English language for as long as I can remember. I attended a Catholic high school (where they still took grammar seriously!); I chose a writing-intensive program for my Associate’s Degree; I added a writing concentration to my Bachelor’s Degree program at St. John Fisher College; and I worked as tutor in the writing center there until my graduation in 1998. I have been writing, tutoring and editing professionally ever since.
I have worked with several authors (of both fiction and non-fiction) on Amazon's best-seller list; I have fixed up doctoral theses, web content, professional letters, and everything in between. It would be my pleasure to help you make your writing the very best it can be!
When I was a kid and people asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always told them I would be an artist. In high school I took all the art classes that were offered...but there were only two. In college I was encouraged to be practical and study things that would make me employable; I finished my bachelor's degree in three years, but that didn't leave any room in my schedule for courses outside of my degree program.
Along came real life: I did some office work, some church work, some tutoring, and finally settled into freelance editing and ghostwriting; but in my spare time I was always creating. I learned to crochet. I made jewelry. I discovered mindful drawing. I went back to the calligraphy I had studied in high school. I expanded my lettering practice, combined it with drawing, and started designing tour laminates (all access passes for band and crew).
When one of my clients needed some graphic design done on a project I was already editing, I offered to learn how to do it. She was so happy with the result that she insisted on hiring me as her new graphic designer, despite the fact that I was not a graphic designer (yet). So I started learning.
They say a picture's worth a thousand words, but what I've discovered is that words and pictures work together to tell the whole story. Writing, editing, and graphic design flow into one another and fit together so seamlessly that integrating these has made me better at all of them. I am pleased to finally be able to offer my clients all of these services, either individually, or as a complete package.
